Popeye Village

'Sweethaven Village': The film set for the 1980 Musical Production, also known as 'Popeye Village', was built and constructed in Anchor Bay at the end of 1979, taking 7 months to complete.

To construct the authentic wooden village, tree trunk logs were brought overland from Holland, wood shingles used in the construction of the roof tops were imported all the way from Canada, and eight tons of nails and two thousand gallons of paint were used with a 165-man construction crew. No less than 20 wooden structures were built. Before the set could be erected, an access road to the set had to be constructed.

Anchor Bay also needed a 200-250 foot breakwater at its mouth, to protect the set from high seas during the shooting months of the film production.

The film set can be used for various types of functions and activities including casual BBQ lunches and dinners, which can be themed such as Pirate Nights, where we can provide animators dressed up as pirates and do small sketches related to that period. The animators are also normally used to greet the group as they arrive in the Village, all dressed up as Popeye characters.

The Popeye Village management can also organise fruit stops and coffee stops at the film set where the clients come for a treasure hunt in the Village itself, and then provide refreshments.

The clients can also access the film set by sea where they can come with a big boat or small Luzzu and disembark on the pier. Normally, when they arrive with big boats, a series of smaller boats are waiting to transfer them to the film set. Catering can be in-house or outside catering.
